TIP120 - Darlington NPN Transistor

The TIP120 is a Darlington NPN Power Transistor. It functions like a normal NPN transistor but since it has Darlington Pair inside it can provide a good collector current of up to 5A and gain of over 1000. In Darlington Pair there are two transistors in which emitter of first transistor is connected to the base of the second transistor and collectors of both the transistors are connected together to form a Darlington pair. Due to high gain and good collector current, this NPN transistor is normally used to drive high current loads or where very high amplification is required.
